Why would John McCain have said such a thing?

The fundamentals of our current economy include a prolonged war without any endgame strategy, special interest tax breaks for oil companies and a deregulated banking industry that wrote mortgages with flimsy premiums based on non-existent credit. Barack Obama recognizes that these problems are interconnected by the misguided spending of the past eight years. While hardly an instant cure-all, he's the necessary agent of reform that we need.
